Review:
Storyline of the book is very
Strong. After the 2012 Nirbhaya incident, this topic has caught attention of
many writers and Vikkas Arun Pareek is one of them.
But there is one thing which differentiate
Vikkas from others here, he is not trying to start a fight with his writing. In
his own words:
“This book will not change the world. It will not even
change a community, a city and I do not mind that. If along with all the voices
a voice is added and collectively sent to the society to improve itself, set a benchmark
and then achieve it or at least try to achieve it. If it even helps or changes
one person life, my goals and efforts to write this book will be met.”
This is really unique. I have seen many authors who are
championing the cause and claiming that there writing will definitely change
the thinking of Society. I salute Vikkas to be honest and humble.
Story revolves around the lives of four women who are attached
to a common thread and suffer and fight against the atrocities of the Society
to ultimately emerge champions.
Bhano, Shanti, Mano and Arti: they represent different
sections of society, they represent different thoughts of society. They all
suffer in their own way. Shanti loses her life but in the end Bhano, Mano and
Arti are able to get justice and start a new life. A happy ending.
I am not touching on the story deliberately as I want each of
you to read it and experience it yourself without knowing what is going to
happen next.
All in all a very Strong Novel. It gives us an insight in what
is happening on the other side of Grass.
Few points of improvement are:
1. Language:
I have noticed and discussed it earlier too. No harm in writing in English by
translating your thoughts but then one must read enough before writing scenes
like Sexual Harassment. The quality of writing takes a hit if we don’t use write
words and phrases. If we just translate word to word the meaning is lost, the
impact is lost. Here is where editing helps.
2. Editing:
This book has been edited as claimed in the beginning. But editing proves to be
the weakest link of the book. The language, words, grammar, phrases,
description of scenes all deserve a lot of editing.
I suggest the author to get the editing done again and
republish it. The book has a scope to be best seller.

The best thing I liked is the honest acceptance of the writer that the book is not going to change the society at large. I do write for the sake of telling stories and not for bringing a change in society. A few writers claim but we see nothing happens. Kudos to Uttam ji for suggesting the areas of improvement in the novel.Looking forward for more reviews from his desk.
